Chetan ‘Chet’ Singh, former head coach for OpTic Gaming and NRG Esports in Valorant, has announced his transition to Counter-Strike 2 following Riot Games’ decision to suspend him from VCT until March 2025.
On October 15, Riot Games released a statement explaining that Singh violated the “Riot Games Global Esports Code of Conduct” by broadcasting restricted VoDs meant for team coaches. Riot stated that Singh shared these VoDs on July 31, 2024, without authorization, which included sensitive information.
Ruling specified that Singh did not seek approval from Riot Games, NRG, or other involved teams before publicly distributing the inaccessible VoDs. The suspension takes effect immediately and runs until March 3, 2025, aligning with the conclusion of VCT Masters Bangkok.
The announcement sparked surprise in the community, with TSM’s Subroza calling it “outrageous” and 100 Thieves’ Asuna reacting with “wow.” Fellow coach Tanizhq expressed skepticism. Suggesting that Riot’s decision seemed like a “witch hunt”. Noting that only one of the five players from the original team was still active and NRG had already released a communications video.
Hours after the ruling, Chet confirmed his plan to return to coaching in Counter-Strike 2, inviting teams to reach out for potential opportunities after the next major. He also stated that he remains open to coaching in Valorant once his suspension ends, and will continue streaming on Twitch in the meantime.
