The news broke just a day after G2’s elimination, with reports from Sheep Esports indicating that both Yike and Mikyx are being allowed to explore other team options without a contract buyout.
Though the organization could have enforced a buyout to keep them under contract, they are leaving on fairly amicable terms. Yike and Mikyx will be free to explore opportunities elsewhere, likely making them sought-after free agents.
The move comes as a surprise, especially after G2’s dominance in the LEC throughout the year, winning all three domestic Playoffs and the Season Final. Despite being the top team in Europe, they fell short at Worlds, failing to reach the Quarterfinals. Even though G2 faced one of the toughest possible draws, they still needed to overcome teams of that caliber to win the tournament.
As G2 prepares for roster changes, speculation has arisen about who will replace Yike and Mikyx.
According to Team Heretics coach Peter Dun, SkewMond and Labrov are likely to join G2. Dun believes there’s an “80-90%” chance that SkewMond will take the jungle role, while Labrov, previously a key player for Team BDS, would have stayed with BDS if not for recent roster moves.
Labrov is already familiar to many LEC fans due to his role in Team BDS’ success. SkewMond, on the other hand, is a rising star. Rudy ‘SkewMond’ Semaan had an impressive year with Team BDS Academy. Showcasing his adaptability to different metas, particularly excelling in both mage and hard-engage jungler roles.
Team BDS Academy had a strong year in the LFL, and alongside Labrov’s move, Reeker is reportedly joining SK Gaming, while Parus is expected to step up to BDS’s main LEC roster in Labrov’s place.
