Faker’s Iron League Experience: A Matchmaking Mix-Up in EUW

Professional League of Legends player and T1 mid laner Faker found himself placed in Iron lobbies while practicing in EUW due to an unexpected matchmaking error.

The 2024 League of Legends World Championship is currently taking place in Europe, bringing together teams from around the world to compete for the title of the best team. This prestigious annual tournament sees all invited teams traveling internationally to prepare.

Preparation involves various activities, from acclimating to new time zones to grinding through solo queue matches to sharpen their mechanics. Given the fierce competition, even top players must consistently practice to remain relevant.

Among them is Hall of Legends player T1 Faker, who has been honing his skills in normal games on EUW. However, Riot’s matchmaking system had other plans, placing him in matches with players from the lowest ranks.

Faker’s experience has been notable, as he found himself competing against an Iron Two player, one of the lowest ranks in League of Legends.

Unsurprisingly, Faker has been dominating these matches, accumulating numerous kills along the way.

Typically, League of Legends accounts have separate normal and ranked matchmaking ratings (MMR), meaning Faker would generally be matched against significantly more skilled players. However, since this account was provided by Riot for play on EUW, it may not have had enough time to adjust to the matchmaking system, leading to this unusual situation.

The World Championship is still ongoing.
