TenZ has been a pivotal figure in Valorant’s competitive scene since its early days. His time with Sentinels propelled him into the spotlight, gaining millions of fans and winning several international titles. Recently, he made a surprising announcement, revealing his retirement from professional play.
The main reason behind his decision was the desire to step back from the intense demands of being a pro player and focus on personal interests outside of the game.
“I’ve known since the beginning of this year. I told myself, ‘This is my last year.’ It was my way of giving everything I had and playing without regrets,” he shared.
The Sentinels organization posted a message on social media honoring him: “Forever the face of Valorant @TenZOfficial announces his retirement from competitive play.”
TenZ elaborated, “There are so many things I’m passionate about outside of the game, and I needed more time to pursue them.”

Although stepping away from the starting lineup, TenZ didn’t completely rule out occasionally subbing in for Sentinels if needed.
In a follow-up video, TenZ explained that he informed his teammates of his decision to retire right before Valorant Champions Seoul, adding that the decision was easy given how well his content creation career is progressing. His teammates were supportive when he shared the news.
Recognized as one of the best Duelists in Valorant history, TenZ consistently delivered standout performances, with numerous 5K plays in high-stakes matches. Toward the end of his career, he transitioned to playing Agents like Omen and Gekko, a stark contrast to his previous focus on Duelists like Reyna and Jett, with whom he secured his first international title in 2021. The shift in roles paid off, as Sentinels clinched their second international title this year.
With two Masters event victories, TenZ retires as the only North American player to achieve this feat, closing his career on a high note.
