Jorge Braz’s Vision: Futsal as a Global Game-Changer

He is regarded as one of the most influential voices in futsal and was selected by Futsal Street Spot to be featured in the series “Game-Changers.” The series aims to explore the perspectives of key figures in the sport, and the national team coach was among those chosen.

Jorge Braz was the first to have his insights shared. He spoke about his journey in futsal, the sport’s development in Portugal, and shared his global vision for futsal, beginning with a bold statement:

“FIFA could have the two biggest sports in the world. They already have football; they could also have futsal.” This striking quote was used as the title, but his broader views on the sport were equally compelling.

“First and foremost, there needs to be a strategic development plan. What is the country’s plan for futsal? What’s the vision? Where are we headed? What kind of progress do we want for women’s futsal? These are the key questions,” he emphasized, also discussing changes to the rules of the game.

“We need to consider all of them, not just a few. What can make the game more appealing? That’s the critical question. Right now, it feels like people are focusing on minor details that don’t contribute much to the overall development,” warned Braz, before concluding by sharing what excites him most about futsal.

“The unpredictability and how quickly the outcome can change, along with the high-quality technical and tactical play. I often say, those who start with futsal, usually stick with it,” the Portuguese coach remarked.
