It was an open secret, and today Barça officially announced the renewal of Sergio Lozano’s contract until 2025. The captain has signed his fourth contract extension since his arrival in 2011. He will continue for another season, marking his fourteenth overall and sixth as the team’s captain. As a Barça player, he has broken numerous records in the section, even after recovering from his fourth serious injury to his right knee.
With six Leagues, four UEFA Futsal Champions Leagues, six Spanish Cups, four Super Cups, and seven Copas del Rey, the ‘Búfalo’ stands as the most successful member of Barcelona futsal. The all-time top scorer after 13 seasons and 330 goals. Lozano, a legend in the making, expressed his desire to see his shirt hanging from the Palau ceiling alongside that of his friend Paco Sedano, the only one so far.
Retire at Barça
“I want to retire at Barça, and I want my final game as a player to be with the Palau filled, bidding farewell to the fans and expressing gratitude for all the love they’ve shown me over the years,” stated Lozano regarding his much-awaited contract renewal. “My priority has always been to continue with Barça; I have no desire to wear any other shirt. I’ll remain here as long as the club desires,” he explained.
Present at the signing ceremony were President Joan Laporta, section manager Aureli Mas, and team manager Jordi Torras. “Individually, I aim to avoid injuries, and collectively, I strive to pursue every possible title,” reiterated the 35-year-old player. However, his focus now lies on the UEFA Futsal Champions League semi-final against Sporting de Portugal on May 3.
“There was indeed a bit of uncertainty, especially with such a long-term injury; you’re unsure of the outcome. However, despite the economic challenges the club faces, they assured me from the start that they believed in me. I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue playing in my home,” he explained.

The Madrid native, who had feared for his continuity at Barça for some months, recently published a book titled ‘Goals and Scars’. Despite undergoing four surgeries, Lozano considers himself privileged to continue playing. “As long as I’m healthy, I’m confident there won’t be any issues. However, when the time comes that the club determines I can no longer contribute, I’ll bid farewell with immense gratitude,” he concluded.
Sergio Lozano’s renewal marks the fourth after Whistle, Dídac Plana, and Catela. With Ferrao’s confirmed departure – destination unknown – and André Coelho’s return to Benfica, Barça announced the recruitment of Moroccan international Khalid Bouzid and continued their search for a center after ruling out Brazilian Vinicius Rocha (Benfica).
Meanwhile, as Jesús Velasco officially bids farewell to Barça to lead the national team, the club has confirmed Tino Pérez as his replacement, as exclusively revealed by Relevo.
