Sergio González Makes Triumphant Return to Barça Futsal After 10-Month Injury Layoff

After a challenging ten-month recovery period, Barça futsal winger Sergio González has been medically cleared to return to competition. González had been sidelined since March 5, 2024, when he sustained a severe left knee injury, including an anterior cruciate ligament tear and external meniscus damage, during a match against Jaén Paraíso Interior.

Speaking to club media, González opened up about the mental challenges of his rehabilitation period, during which he missed 33 matches. “Being away from the game takes away a fundamental part of who you are as a player,” González reflected. “The journey has been filled with ups and downs, though the difficult moments have predominated.”

González, who joined Barcelona in 2022 from Viña Albali Valdepeñas, made an immediate impact in his debut season. Contributing to the team’s treble success in winning the Spanish Super Cup, League, and Copa del Rey. Despite the hardships of his recovery, he maintained a positive mindset throughout his rehabilitation. “I never doubted I would return to doing what I love most,” he stated, emphasizing his resilient approach to recovery.

COmeback

His return coincides with the comeback of two other key players: captain Sergio Lozano, who has recovered from a right leg semimembranosus muscle injury sustained in November, and goalkeeper Miquel Feixas, who has overcome a partial tear in his left knee’s internal lateral ligament.

Coach Tino Pérez now has his full 15-player first-team squad available for the first time this season. With only Erick Mendonça being left out for the upcoming match against Córdoba World Heritage. The team, currently fifth in the league with 24 points from eight wins and five losses, aims to break their three-game losing streak, including their recent 3-7 home defeat to league leaders Servigroup Peñíscola FS.

Despite recent setbacks, González remains optimistic about the team’s prospects. “We’re still in contention across all competitions,” he noted. “With the full squad now available, we can demonstrate our true potential. The crucial phase of our season begins this January, and we’re prepared to face these challenges head-on.”
