Palma Futsal Strengthens Squad with Brazilian Star Charuto
In a significant move that highlights their ambitious plans, Illes Balears Palma Futsal has secured the signature of Brazilian futsal star Charles Henrique Ferreira da Silva. Commonly known as ‘Charuto.’ The 30-year-old pivot from São Bento do Sul has committed to the club until 2027, with an option for an additional season.
The signing represents an unprecedented financial investment by the two-time Champions League winners, who successfully acquired one of Magnus Futsal’s key players. Notably, Charuto had previously faced Palma in the recent Intercontinental final at Son Moix, where despite scoring, his team fell to a 4-1 defeat.
Magnus Futsal’s coach Ricardinho offered high praise for both Charuto and his new club. “Charuto is Brazil’s premier center,” Ricardinho stated, adding that “his addition will elevate Palma’s already formidable squad.” The Brazilian coach particularly commended Palma’s strategy of developing young talent. Citing players like Neguinho (on loan from Barça) and Ernesto, a former Magnus player, as examples of their dynamic approach.
Ricardinho, who has worked with Charuto since 2019, described him as a mature leader with exceptional scoring abilities and defensive prowess. The coach highlighted Charuto’s evolution through his experiences at clubs like Jaraguá, Corinthians, Tubarao, and Joaçaba, emphasizing his openness to learning and competitive spirit.
Mutual Respect
Mutual respect between the two clubs is evident in Ricardinho’s relationship with Palma’s Antonio Vadillo, recently named the world’s best coach. The two regularly exchange ideas and tactical insights, with Ricardinho expressing interest in potentially coaching in Spain after his current Magnus contract expires.
José Tirado, Palma’s sports director, described the signing as “a Three Kings’ gift” to the fans. Following Cleber’s departure to Saudi Arabia, the club prioritized acquiring a world-class center, and in Charuto, they believe they’ve secured one of the world’s top three players in that position.
The move has prompted some squad adjustments, with young Brazilian Thierry moving to Noia Portus Apostoli on loan for the remainder of the season. Additionally, Duduzinho, another promising talent signed in 2022 and recognized as the world’s best young player, will continue his development at Pato Futsal until June before joining Palma.
