Spain’s Women’s Futsal Coach Sets Sights on Historic 2025 World Cup

Spain’s women’s futsal head coach Clàudia Pons has set her sights on the inaugural Women’s Futsal World Cup, scheduled to take place in the Philippines in 2025. Speaking to the Royal Spanish Football Federation’s media team, Pons emphasized that their primary focus is on successfully navigating the European qualifying rounds.

Despite 2024 being a year without major competitions, Pons described it as a period of valuable development and growing anticipation. The announcement of the Philippines as the host nation and the confirmation of the tournament dates (November 21 to December 7) has energized the team’s preparations.

“Having concrete dates and a venue has made everything more tangible. Our enthusiasm continues to grow, which drives us forward,” Pons remarked. “We’re eager to begin the qualification campaign.”

As three-time European champions, Spain enters the qualification phase with high expectations. Pons acknowledged this legacy while remaining grounded: “Our past success in European championships positions us as favorites, but we must prove ourselves on the court. We’re committed to giving our absolute best.”

Looking ahead to 2025, Pons expressed concern about the impact of injuries that have affected women’s futsal. “Our main hope for the coming year is to maintain the team’s health and avoid injuries. We’re still developing our squad, aiming to build sufficient depth to handle any situation. Recent injury challenges have highlighted the importance of having a comprehensive roster,” she explained.
