Following a 2-1 defeat to Wanapix Sala 10 Zaragoza, ElPozo Murcia’s head coach Dani Martínez has offered his resignation. Martínez, who had previously stated he would step down if the team lost this match, confirmed his intention after the game.
“I am placing my position at the disposal of the club,” Martínez stated, requesting respect for his decision. The loss marks the team’s fifth consecutive defeat. Including four in the league and an elimination from the Copa del Rey at the hands of Real Betis Futsal.
Martínez, who stepped into the role on February 16 following Javi Rodríguez’s dismissal, explained that his decision was carefully considered. “When I make public statements, they come after deep reflection. We cannot continue on this path. While I appreciate the players’ intensity and commitment today, it’s simply not enough,” he explained.
This development comes at a crucial time for the Murcia club, with General and Sports Director Fran Serrejón now needing to decide whether to accept the resignation. The timing is particularly challenging as ElPozo Murcia faces several important upcoming fixtures. These include hosting the Spanish Cup, an anticipated local derby against Jimbee Cartagena at the Palacio de los Deportes, and a Super Cup clash with Real Betis Futsal in Cartagena – a rematch of their November 27 Copa del Rey encounter which Betis, the current cup holders, won.
