Spanish futsal continues to demonstrate its dominance in European competitions, with Palma Futsal and Jimbee Cartagena making significant strides in the UEFA Futsal Champions League, despite the national team’s disappointing performance in the recent World Cup in Uzbekistan.
Both teams have nearly secured their spots in the Final Four after impressive victories in the Elite Round. Palma Futsal defeated the Slovak team Lucenec 4-1, with Fabinho scoring a hat-trick on his 23rd birthday. They are close to matching Playas de Castellón’s impressive record of 16 wins and 5 draws across 21 matches. Palma has already achieved a remarkable feat by winning the European championship in its first two campaigns, a distinction previously held only by Playas de Castellón.
Jimbee Cartagena also performed strongly, beating the Latvian team Riga 4-1. They overcame an early goal by scoring three times in the first half, with goals from Pablo Ramírez, Cortés, and Motta. The match was characterized by intense play and lenient refereeing.
Both teams are poised to advance to the Final Four. Palma Futsal needs only a draw or win against the Polish team Rekord Beilsko-Biala to secure their spot. Jimbee Cartagena will aim to qualify by performing well against a Romanian team in their upcoming match.
In additional futsal news, the Spanish Super Cup will be held in Cartagena on January 18 and 19. The event will feature Jimbee (the defending champions), Barça (Spanish Cup champions), Real Betis Futsal (Copa del Rey winners), and ElPozo Murcia Costa Calida. The presentation and draw for the tournament will take place on December 5.
