Chaos in Cartagena: Chair-Throwing Incident Mars Jimbee vs. Industrias Santa Coloma Match

The eighth matchday of the First Division left an unforgettable image: a chair flying into the stands at Cartagena’s Sports Palace. The incident occurred during the 33rd minute of the game between Jimbee Cartagena and Industrias Santa Coloma. Alex Verdejo, the Catalan team’s captain, had to leave the court with a bleeding eyebrow after a collision with Pablo Ramírez. Frustrated, Verdejo kicked two chairs aside, provoking a reaction from the crowd.

The situation escalated

Raúl Valero, Industrias’ physiotherapist, escalated the situation by throwing a chair toward the court, which landed in the front rows without injuring any fans. This led to a five-minute interruption as tensions flared. Jimbee’s manager, Roberto Sánchez, intervened alongside police to restore order. Referees Jorge González Moreta and Luis Sánchez Chamorro sent off Valero with a straight red card and booked Verdejo with a yellow. Verdejo later returned to the game with a heavily bandaged eyebrow and expressed gratitude to Jimbee’s medical team on social media for their professionalism during the chaotic moments.

After Jimbee secured a 3-2 victory, team doctor Antonio Peláez accompanied Valero to apologize to the affected fans. Earlier, Valero had already visited the referees to express regret for his unsportsmanlike behavior, which may mitigate the likely sanction from the RFEF Competition Judge. Industrias Santa Coloma confirmed they would accept any punishment but would not take internal action against Valero, citing his six seasons without prior incidents. The club plans to issue a public apology to Cartagena fans on Monday.

In other league action, Barça celebrated a significant 4-3 win over Movistar Inter, marking their fifth consecutive victory. Standout performances from goalkeeper Miquel Feixas and goals by Catela, Álex Yepes, Fits, and Antonio Pérez ended Inter’s unbeaten streak, though they remain league leaders after Palma Futsal and ElPozo Murcia Costa Cálida played to a 2-2 draw. Barça coach Tino Pérez praised the team’s ambitious play, calling it their best performance of the season.
