Industrias Santa Coloma Battles Cold Showers Amid Hot Start to Season

For almost three months, Industrias Santa Coloma has been without hot water in the changing rooms at Pavelló Nou. This issue has persisted since August 19, covering the entire preseason and five league games, including three at home. Head coach Xavi Closas recently expressed his frustration, asking for more respect for his team and pointing out these “unseen challenges.” Despite these obstacles, the Catalan team has had a strong start with three home victories, one away draw, and a single away defeat.

With colder weather making the situation harder for a First Division team, Closas addressed Santa Coloma’s City Council, urging the mayor, Mireia González, and sports councilor Dani Salgado, a former club icon, to support the club more actively. He called for better appreciation of the team’s efforts for the city, emphasizing that everyone should step up. Closas raised awareness of the issue, noting that rival teams, including Osasuna Magna, had to either take cold showers or walk to a nearby football field to find hot water after matches.

Pavelló Nou

Pavelló Nou, a significant venue in Santa Coloma, opened in 1977 and underwent a major renovation in 2019, reopening in January 2021 with an investment of €4.4 million. The European Union contributed €700,000 through the FEDER fund, with the rest covered by municipal funds and the Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB).

Santa Coloma’s City Council cited “bureaucratic delays” involving various departments as the reason for the lack of hot water. Confirming that a repair is underway with a budget of €15,000 and an expected completion time of 25 days. They also mentioned that smaller changing rooms with hot water are available for referees and staff needs.

Sporting-wise, Closas highlighted the team’s solid form, currently fourth in the standings with 10 points. He noted their unbeaten home record and the growing strength they feel with fan support at Pavelló Nou. He expressed optimism but recognized the need to improve away performances and manage injuries effectively.
