The BLAST R6 Major Montreal 2024 opened on October 7 at the Verdun Auditorium. But viewership on the first day didn’t reach the same levels as the previous Major. A notable absence in Phase 1 was Team Liquid, which contributed to lower numbers. This event’s Day 1 hit a peak of 55.2K viewers—a 44.2% drop from the Manchester Major—while Hours Watched and Average Viewers dropped by 4.7% and 45.2%, respectively.
Despite an increase in channels and co-casters (from 91 to 100), the expanded coverage didn’t boost viewership. Several prominent Portuguese-speaking streamers, like zigueira, drew fewer viewers this time, likely due to the lack of major Brazilian teams like Team Liquid.
The most-watched match on Day 1 was the Upper Bracket Quarterfinal between CL4L and Black Dragons—a USA-Brazil showdown that stirred interest across the Americas. In contrast, the top match from Manchester’s Day 1 was Team Liquid vs. G2 Esports, which reached 79.5K peak viewers.
Team Liquid’s absence had a clear impact on the Portuguese-speaking audience. Which saw a 277.2% drop in peak viewership compared to last year when their all-Brazilian roster drew 31K peak viewers in that language.
The 2024 Majors also feature a new format, with 12 teams advancing directly to Phase 2, while eight lower-seeded teams compete in Phase 1 for the remaining spots. With top teams entering the scene in Phase 2, Esports Charts will share ongoing updates on the event’s official page as the competition unfolds.
