Free Fire World Series 2024 Global Finals: Teams, Schedule & Viewing Guide

The Free Fire World Series – Global Finals 2024 is fast approaching, and fans are eager to see if a new champion will rise or if another team will defend its title. Held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the tournament will kick off on November 8 with the Knockout Stage at the Rio Centro Convention, then move to the Carioca Arena 1 for the Point Rush and Grand Finals, running through November 24.

The finals will feature 18 top Free Fire teams from regions like SEA, LATAM, Brazil, and MEA/Pakistan, alongside the Esports World Cup champion. They’ll compete for a $1 million prize pool, with the winning team set to take home $300,000.

Notably, 2024 introduced updates to all local leagues, rebranding them under the Free Fire World Series. The year also marked the debut of the mid-year EWC 2024, where Team Falcons secured a spot as the first qualified team for this championship event.

History of the Free Fire World Series

The Free Fire World Series launched five years ago, replacing the Free Fire World Cup 2019, the tournament’s only edition. The inaugural FFWS took place in November 2019, but the 2020 editions were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After being held twice yearly for a few years, it returned as an annual event in 2023.

Among all the FFWS editions, Singapore 2021 remains the most watched and even held the overall esports record for peak viewership until last year’s LoL Worlds. The series enjoyed a significant viewership boost during the lockdowns, but its audience has now stabilized, with Free Fire shifting towards a niche viewership.

One reason for this shift is the competition in the mobile battle royale genre. PUBG Mobile, for example, is currently hosting its Global Championship 2024, overlapping with the FFWS. The PMGC 2024, which will run until December 8, may draw some viewership away from the FFWS, with both tournaments appealing to a similar fan base. The impact on viewership between these two events remains to be seen.
