2024 League of Legends Worlds opening ceremony attracts record 4.2 million viewers

The 2024 League of Legends World Championship Grand Final has arrived, with T1 and Bilibili Gaming competing for ultimate glory. This matchup between powerhouse teams from South Korea and China brings an added layer of intensity.

Before the showdown, fans enjoyed the Grand Final’s opening ceremony, which reached an impressive 4.2 million peak viewers, breaking the esports viewership record of 3.3 million set in 2022. In contrast, the 2023 ceremony, featuring the K-pop group NewJeans and the virtual boy band Heartsteel, recorded 2.5 million peak viewers.

This year’s opening lineup included Ashnikko, Mars Atlas of Forts, Tiffany Aris, and the iconic band Linkin Park. The band closed the ceremony with this year’s anthem, “Heavy is the Crown,” marking a debut for their new vocalist, Emily Armstrong, and was set against a backdrop of fire and flames as the finalists took the stage.

At this point in the series, Bilibili Gaming has claimed a 1-0 lead in the first game of the Grand Final.
