LoL Worlds 2024 Breaks Viewership Records: Peak Viewers, Intense Finals, and a New Milestone for Esports

LoL Worlds 2023 shattered previous records as the most-watched esports event, reaching over 6.4 million viewers and outpacing any event before it. However, Worlds 2024 pushed this milestone even further, somehow surpassing 2023’s impressive achievement.

Following Worlds 2022, where DRX narrowly defeated T1 in a dramatic final, fans of LoL’s iconic team were eager for a comeback. Although the 2023 final was seen as one-sided, with T1 winning decisively, millions still tuned in to witness Faker claim his fourth title.

But 2024’s event had a different tone. BLG proved to be a formidable challenger, pushing T1 to the limit. The series went to game 5, a factor that likely contributed to breaking the previous viewership record. According to Esports Charts, Worlds 2024 reached a peak of just under 7 million viewers, surpassing last year’s record by over 500,000.

Additionally, with an average of nearly 2 million viewers across the event, LoL Worlds 2024 is now the most-watched esports event in history. Despite its age, League of Legends remains a top-tier esport, drawing millions each year.

And T1 wasn’t the only draw. For example, Gen.G’s quarterfinal match against FlyQuest peaked at over 3 million viewers. Meanwhile, the opening ceremony itself saw 4.5 million viewers, setting a new record for esports events.

Whether League of Legends can keep this momentum and continue to break records is uncertain. With T1 and Faker driving massive viewership, it’s hard to see these records falling unless they return to claim more titles in 2025.
