2024 League of Legends Worlds Grand Final Breaks Esports Viewership Records

The 2024 League of Legends World Championship Grand Final has set new records, becoming the most-watched match in esports history. During the last game of the best-of-five series between Bilibili Gaming and T1, viewership peaked at 6.94 million, marking it as only the second esports event to surpass 6 million HW viewers.

Fans saw intense competition in the first four games, with defending champion T1 needing two comebacks to push the series to a decisive fifth game. Mid-laner Faker kept T1’s hopes alive, stopping Bilibili from claiming its first world title.

Some key viewership insights from this record-breaking LoL Worlds:

Ultimately, T1 secured its fifth world title with a 3-2 win, matching Faker’s personal count. This victory also echoed T1’s back-to-back championship wins nearly a decade after its initial success as SK Telecom T1.

Several other records were shattered during this extended series. Vietnam set a new esports record with 1.11 million peak viewers, becoming the third Southeast Asian language to cross the 1 million viewer threshold after Indonesian and Tagalog, and the tenth language overall to reach this level.

Additional languages also hit new records, including English, Chinese, Swedish, and Czech. English nearly hit 2 million viewers, an 8.37% rise over the 2023 mark. Portuguese and French also set new peak viewership records, further underscoring the success of this LoL tournament.

A fresh esports record was achieved by CHZZK with 297,000 peak viewers, surpassing the previous record set at the LCK Spring 2024, and an all-time platform high of 445,200 viewers, driven by a massive Korean fanbase rallying behind T1.

In Twitch chat, Faker dominated mentions during the Grand Final with 23.6K, and “GOAT” was referenced over 4.4K times in tribute to his legacy. The emote “riotllaT1,” associated with T1, led in popularity, receiving over 60K mentions.

This latest LoL Worlds edition has once again set the bar for esports events in terms of viewership. There’s plenty more to analyze as the dust settles, but for now, League of Legends fans can celebrate T1’s historic win and the records it helped set.
