Arena of Valor International Championship 2024: Regional Leagues Conclude with Record-Breaking Viewership

On October 20, two regional leagues concluded in the Arena of Valor calendar, finalizing the line-up for the 2024 Arena of Valor International Championship (AIC). This will be the eighth edition under the AIC franchise, featuring 16 teams competing for the world champion title.

The first event to wrap up was the RoV Pro League 2024 Winter, held in various locations across Bangkok from August 17 to October 20. It became the most successful tournament in the series, building on recent successes and expanding the game’s presence beyond its traditional Asian base.

RoV Pro League 2024 Winter – Key Highlights

In the Grand Final, eArena defeated Bacon Time 4:2, securing the championship title and a prize of approximately $181,000. Both teams, along with the top five finishers, qualified for the AIC 2024, set to take place in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, this November and December. This was Bacon Time’s third consecutive defeat in the finals, despite reaching the last six championship matches and securing three victories in that span—a point the team’s management will likely seek to address.

Record-Breaking Viewership

The RoV Pro League 2024 Winter peaked at 366.5K viewers during the Grand Final, setting a new record by surpassing the RoV Pro League 2023 Winter by 17.28%. It was the second tournament in the series to exceed 300K peak viewers. The tournament also achieved 12.6 million hours watched and 64.1K average viewers across 197 hours of broadcasting, making it the first event in the series to cross 12 million hours watched.

The success was driven by the Grand Final showdown between the most-followed teams, building excitement after their earlier encounter in the Upper Bracket Final, where eArena had won. Fans were eager to see if Bacon Time could break their streak of finals losses.

Expanding Reach

The 2024 winter edition benefited from broader coverage, with more platforms involved, including co-casting. This expansion, particularly on TikTok, made it the second-most popular platform for Thai viewers.

Another key regional event, the AOV Star League Winter 2024, concluded with Old Man’s emerging as the winner. While it didn’t reach the numbers of the Thai league, it remains an essential part of the game’s ecosystem, with Old Man’s set to represent Indonesia at AIC 2024.

Future Outlook

The Arena of Valor International Championship 2024, set in Vietnam, promises to be a highlight of the year. Although details about prize money, commentators, and the format are still pending, fans are expected to turn out in large numbers. With five Vietnamese teams participating, local support could push the event to set new viewership records, especially if the home teams make deep runs in the tournament.
