Jojopyun Set to Make History as First NA Starter in European League of Legends

With jojopyun hinting at dominating Europe and multiple reports suggesting that MAD Lions KOI have signed him. It seems almost certain that North America’s rising mid-lane star will become the first NA starter in European League of Legends history.

Interestingly, there was a chance jojopyun could have competed in South Korea last year, as he had various offers both this year and last. Ultimately, he chose Cloud9 for 2024—a decision that backfired, as the team failed to qualify for any international events. However, Jojo’s lackluster 2024 didn’t stop his 2025 off-season from being eventful.

Ibai reportedly made an offer, and some KOI members even pleaded with him to join Europe. Assuming he’s not just stirring up Twitter, it looks like Jojo is headed to Europe.

“Just realized I’m gonna be shitting on EU mids every week this gotta be a dream,” Jojo tweeted on October 19, 2024.

He didn’t specify the team, so there’s a chance he might sign elsewhere, but based on off-season roster rumors and public statements from the organization’s owners, it seems MAD Lions is the likely destination.

When Caps was interviewed at Worlds 2024, he mentioned wanting stronger domestic competition, though not at the cost of moving to LPL or LCK. Now, his wish may come true.

It’s also worth noting that while jojopyun will be the first North American import to join a European starting roster, he’s not the first NA player to compete in Europe. NA coach Inero once subbed in for MOUZ’s EU Challengers roster in 2015, but this will be the first time an NA player is a full-time starter for a European team.
