Few players have had a longer career than Faker, but Caps comes close. Since leaving high school to pursue League of Legends full time, Caps has been at or near the top of the European scene. Now, he’s back at Worlds 2024, continuing to chase the title that has eluded him for years.
Caps came closest to winning Worlds in 2019 with G2, when his team was on the verge of completing the Golden Road. They had the potential to redefine the dominance of Western teams in esports, but ultimately fell short. Despite this, Caps remains driven, determined to claim the title while staying true to his European roots. He’s still motivated by the player who inspired him to start playing—Faker, who continues to push him toward his goal.
LEC Season Finals 2024
After yet another successful season, with G2 winning the LEC Season Finals in 2024, Caps reflects on the challenges of balancing innovation and traditional playstyles. While the meta has been tricky, with fewer opportunities to showcase unique picks, he remains confident in his ability to adapt and lead the West at Worlds. Caps feels the pressure to carry the hopes of Western fans and believes that this year, his team can break through and make a deep run.
Having been first or second in the LEC since 2018, Caps acknowledges that domestic competition in Europe has been limited compared to facing teams from regions like China and Korea. He has learned more from playing against LPL and LCK mid laners, but still values the lessons from past rivals like Perkz. Although his team hasn’t had the best scrims against Eastern teams leading up to Worlds, Caps is confident G2 can find their footing in the meta and make a deep run.

For Caps, the motivation to compete at the highest level remains rooted in his desire to win Worlds. Since watching Faker win Season 3, Caps has been driven to achieve the same goal. Despite his long tenure in the game, he feels his career won’t be complete until he secures that title. He’s open to new challenges, such as competing in the LPL or LCK, but for now, his focus is on achieving his dream with a European team.
Caps also reflects on how his priorities have shifted over the years. Early in his career, it was all about grinding the game. Now, he values understanding other roles, building relationships with his teammates, and ensuring that the entire team is aligned in their approach to the game.
As Caps looks ahead to Worlds, he’s conscious of the limited time players have in esports. Faker’s return to the top in 2023, after years without a Worlds title, has inspired him. Caps knows the opportunity to win might not come again, so he’s determined to make this year count.
