Caps’ Commitment: Why G2’s Star Mid Laner Chooses Europe Over LPL and LCK

G2’s star mid laner Caps has considered the possibility of playing in the LPL or LCK to compete in League of Legends, but ultimately decided to stay in Europe. If he’s going to win Worlds, he’ll do it in his own region.

Caps is still determined to secure the biggest title in League of Legends esports. The Worlds trophy has long eluded Western teams, with South Korean and Chinese squads dominating the stage. While some teams have come close, G2 has been the closest to breaking through.

In two interviews this year, Caps discussed why he entertained the idea of joining the LCK/LPL, but also why he remains committed to Europe, aiming to bring glory to his home region.

“I’ve thought before that it could be fun to play in the LPL or LCK. From my perspective, they seem to put in a lot of effort, and that’s what I’ve always wanted – a team that’s fully dedicated. I see that in LPL and LCK teams, but I’m really proud of what we’ve done in the past year and a half,” Caps shared during MSI 2024.

Ahead of Worlds 2024, Caps elaborated on the idea, acknowledging the appeal of facing LCK/LPL players regularly. He even admitted that playing in those regions might make winning Worlds easier. However, he noted that doing so would feel “like the easy way out.”

While he gains more from playing against LCK/LPL mid laners than domestic ones, Caps remains confident in his ability to win Worlds 2024. As one of Europe’s top mid laners, he’s committed to staying on top and bringing success to his region.
