100 Thieves break records at Worlds 2024 in the worst way

100 Thieves have been eliminated from the League of Legends Worlds 2024 after suffering a lopsided defeat against PSG Talon, marking a generally underwhelming performance in the Play-Ins.

In this process, the high-profile 100T team set an unfortunate record, becoming the first North American team to be eliminated during the Worlds Play-In stage.

Entering the tournament with high expectations following a strong showing in the LCS Summer 2024 Championship, 100 Thieves secured a notable 3-1 victory over a formidable Cloud9 team, knocking them out in the third round. Although they finished third overall after a convincing loss to the eventual champions, FlyQuest. Fans believed they had the potential to perform well on the international stage. While hopes for a repeat of DRX’s triumph in 2022 may have been optimistic, few anticipated their early exit.

Unfortunately, they were simply outmatched.

Since the Play-Ins began on September 25, 100 Thieves have faced difficulties. They entered the elimination match against PSG after a surprising 1-2 loss to LLA’s Rainbow7, despite being favored to win.

Some optimism emerged when 100T rebounded with a convincing 2-0 victory over Softbank HAWKS, but they were unable to capitalize on any momentum from that win. The relative youth of the 100 Thieves roster may provide some hope for fans. Though it remains uncertain if the same lineup will return next year.

PSG advances to the Swiss Stage with a significantly bolstered reputation following this performance, and many teams will be eager to avoid facing them. They will take on Hanwha Life Esports in their first match on October 3.
