New format helps WSOW 2024 Finals set Call of Duty: Warzone esports watch time record

The 2024 Call of Duty: Warzone World Championship, held from September 14 to 16 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, marked the final event of the competitive season. Organized by Activision, the tournament featured a new format and an additional day of competition. Resulting in it becoming the most-watched event in the game’s history, despite lower average viewership compared to 2023.

This trios tournament brought together 40 of the top teams of the year to compete for a $950,000 prize pool. After two days of intense action, Team Falcons—comprising Biffle, Shifty, and Soka—claimed the championship and took home $300,000.

A separate solo event, Solo Yolo, offered a $50,000 prize, which was won by Nickool, a 23-year-old content creator from Toronto Ultra, who bested 119 other competitors to secure the win.

2024 World Series of Warzone

The 2024 World Series of Warzone Global Finals saw peak viewership of 286.7K during the third round on Day 2. Making it the fifth most-watched WSOW event. The tournament set a new record with 2.7 million hours watched, surpassing the 2023 event and becoming the first to exceed two million hours watched. However, with an extended airtime of over 10 hours, the average viewership dropped by 56.4% compared to the previous year, with only 191.2K average viewers.

The event was streamed on both YouTube and Twitch, with streamers such as Swagg, Aydan, Zoomaa, and Repullze covering the matches. More than 150 channels broadcast the tournament, with many hitting significant viewership milestones, making this the most-watched Warzone event ever.

Despite the success, 2023 remains the stronger season in terms of average viewership and cumulative watch time, with 11 events compared to 2024’s eight. However, the extended runtime of the 2024 Global Finals boosted total airtime, positioning the event as the second-longest in the game’s competitive history.

As the Warzone season wraps up, fans and Activision are already looking ahead to what 2025 may bring, with expectations for even bigger events in the future.
