NRG and Immortals are reportedly set to leave the LCS as the Americas region prepares for a significant overhaul in the 2025 season.
According to LCS insider Travis Gafford, both teams will exit by the start of 2025. Immortals, a staple in the league since 2016, initially left in 2017 after missing out on partnership selection but returned in 2020 after acquiring OpTic Gaming’s slots. NRG originally participated in the LCS in 2016 but took an extended break before buying Counter Logic Gaming’s slot in 2023.
This development comes after the conclusion of the 2024 LCS season, with Riot Games now restructuring the league ahead of 2025. Riot had previously announced a merger between the LCS, LLA, and CBLOL into a pan-America league, with the LCS and CBLOL functioning as separate conferences. As part of this reorganization, the LCS will be reduced to six teams, down from the current eight.
Earlier, both Golden Guardians and Evil Geniuses left the LCS before the 2024 season. With NRG and Immortals departing, the remaining teams in 2025 are expected to be 100 Thieves, Cloud9, Dignitas, FlyQuest, Shopify Rebellion, and Team Liquid, barring any new acquisitions.
Neither NRG, Immortals, nor Riot Games have officially responded to the reports, although some NRG players have hinted at the news on social media. NRG recently faced layoffs, cutting several roles within the organization. Despite their short return, NRG won the 2023 Summer Split and reached the Worlds Quarterfinals, while Immortals only made one Worlds appearance in 2017.
