Ana Luján is a futsal legend in Spain, and her return to the national team is always cause for celebration. She approaches it with the joy and enthusiasm of a child: “After everything I’ve been through, I’m really happy. There were times I thought I might not be able to play again at the level required for the competition and the national team.”
It’s no surprise that she holds the record for the most international caps, and under Clàudia Pons’ guidance, she is relishing her time on the court: “I’m enjoying it a lot and appreciating these moments even more. After an experience like this, you value things differently.”
Luján last played for the national team in October 2022 against Finland, and now she’s set to return for matches against Morocco in Las Rozas. “I’ve missed it a lot,” she told RFEF media, “but I’m back with confidence and enthusiasm.”
Reflecting on her time away, Luján admits that she “really missed” being part of the national team. While excited to be back, she acknowledges, “I still have a long way to go to get back to my pre-injury level.”
After securing three consecutive European Championships, the Madrid-born player is preparing for the 2025 World Cup with both ambition and composure. “It’s our first World Cup, and we’re all very excited, but we need to stay calm. We have to work hard during this preparation phase, and when the time comes, we’ll enjoy it.”
