FIFA Introduces Bold Rule Changes in Spanish Futsal: A New Era Begins

Whether it’s evolution or regression is a valid question for the entire futsal community. Regardless of such judgments, rule changes in futsal are becoming a reality in Spain, as confirmed.

The outlet from Spain’s neighboring country reports that after FIFA approved the proposal, the RFEF Committee has already informed the clubs about the changes, just days before the start of the I División Femenina.

The most significant and widely debated change, especially on social media, involves giving players the option to use their hands for throw-ins — the decision will be left up to the individual player.

It’s important to clarify that FIFA views this change as a trial, not a permanent decision. The four key changes will be reviewed after this season before a final decision is made.

In addition to the throw-in change, two other modifications will take place in Spanish futsal: goalkeepers will no longer be allowed to throw the ball directly across the field without it first touching a player on their own side, and yellow cards given to substitute bench members for protests will count toward the team’s accumulated fouls.
