The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) released the final squad list for the 2024 World Cup in Uzbekistan this Thursday. National coach Jorge Braz decided to omit Bernardo Paçó from the roster.
As anticipated, Portugal will only take two goalkeepers to the tournament. It’s worth noting that the squad can still be altered up to 24 hours before Portugal’s opening match.
Following an extensive preparation period, the team’s final practice was held in Rio Maior on Thursday morning. After a day off on Friday, they are set to resume training on Saturday.
In Oeiras, the team will hold four more training sessions before departing for Uzbekistan on Tuesday, September 10. Portugal’s first match will take place six days later, on September 16.
Jorge Braz on the team’s preparation:
“This past month has been fantastic. The dedication, team spirit, and overall behavior have been exceptional. I leave feeling confident, ambitious, and with a full heart.
During tough times, everyone supported one another. From August 5 to September 5, it was an intense period, but the response—both individually and collectively—was incredible. We’ll go all the way with these 14 players, and Pauleta and Bernardo Paçó will always remain part of the team.”
