Valorant Offseason: Asuna Denies 100 Thieves’ Kanpeki Trial Rumors

The Valorant esports offseason is in full swing, and discussions about potential team changes have already started. One report concerning 100 Thieves and its roster was quickly dismissed by Peter ‘Asuna’ Mazuryk.

100 Thieves faces an intriguing situation with its Valorant roster, as all players are set to become free agents this year. The team is expected to re-sign its roster for the 2025 season. Especially after a strong performance at Masters Shanghai and narrowly missing out on Valorant Champions 2024.

On August 29, VLR leaker James reported that 100 Thieves is considering former Sentinels player Eric ‘Kanpeki’ Xu for the 2025 roster. Kanpeki, a well-regarded player in the North American scene, has previously played for Tier 2 teams like Akrew and EZ5 before joining Sentinels and TSM.

However, Asuna quickly refuted this report, responding less than an hour after it was posted.

“I love Kanpeki as much as the next guy, but I don’t think 100 Thieves would trial my boy,” Asuna said during a livestream after reading the report.

Players have often denied trial rumors and roster reports in the past. As the benefits of confirming reports can sometimes outweigh the drawbacks of keeping them under wraps while teams finalize their signings and negotiate contracts.

Asuna dismisses rumors

Although Asuna dismissed the rumor. It’s worth noting that he isn’t part of 100 Thieves management and might not be fully aware of who the organization is considering for the 2025 roster.

Kanpeki competed in the North American Challengers League in 2024, playing for Together We Are Terrific in Stage 1. Since then, he’s been part of several amateur teams and posted on August 7 that he’s seeking a team for 2025 in VCT Americas or the Challengers League.

With the Valorant offseason just beginning, this rumor is likely one of many that will emerge in the coming weeks as players enter free agency and teams work to build championship-caliber rosters.
