Portugal’s first week of preparation for the 2024 World Championship has concluded. Bruno Travassos, the physiologist for the national team, provided an update on the training camp in Rio Maior, confirming that significant progress was made in various areas during this period.

Identified improvements: “It was an intense week of hard work. As anticipated, it involved a great deal of learning, both physically and in terms of technical and tactical skills. The main challenge now is to stabilize and ensure all players are performing at the same level so that we can increase the intensity and complexity of training next week. The goal is to help the team grow collectively and ensure they are ready for the upcoming challenges.”

Use of GPS, questionnaires, and other methods: “These tools are always crucial, but at this stage, they are even more vital. Players arrived with varying levels of preparation and abilities. We are focused on understanding each player’s condition, how they are handling the training load, and adjusting accordingly. Overall, the players came well-prepared, and now our focus is on ensuring they can maintain their performance under the demanding conditions of futsal. These tools give us data that goes beyond subjective assessments, aiding our decision-making process.”

Positive feedback: “The response has been very positive. It’s clear the players ended the week fatigued due to the high workload, but their response has been strong not only physically but also cognitively, and in terms of technical and tactical development. Both the players and coaching staff feel very positive about the progress made. We believe this approach will continue to advance our efforts.”
