The PUBG Mobile World Cup 2024 wrapped up on July 28 after nearly ten days of fierce competition. Held as part of the record-setting Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This year’s most-watched PUBG Mobile event featured a long-awaited victory for one of the game’s most consistent teams in recent years.
Alpha7 Esports from Brazil, known for its strong performances over the past four years, finally secured its first global title. The team took home $467,300 from a total prize pool of $3,000,000 and earned 1,000 crucial Club Points.
The event peaked with 564.8K viewers during Round 4 of Day 1 of the Finals, when South Korea’s DRX claimed its sole win of the tournament. Alpha7 Esports dominated with five wins out of 18 rounds in the Main Event, accumulating 153 points, 29 more than any other team. Japan’s REJECT finished in second place. Overall, the tournament recorded 8.95M hours watched and 205.2K average viewers over 44 hours.
viewership
Despite the high viewership, the presence of some major teams could have further boosted the numbers. Teams like Vampire Esports, Al Ula x IHC (the defending world champion), and Falcons Force fell short of the top five, leading to a lower turnout from their fans. Notably, the Saudi team did not advance to the Main Event.
China’s Tianba made headlines by finishing third without winning a single round in the Main Tournament. The Peacekeeper Elite League Spring 2024 champion tied with REJECT with 124 points but had fewer Winner Winner Chicken Dinners (WWCDs). Securing third place and $212.3K in winnings.
Indonesian and Arabic languages remained the top contributors to watch time. Though interest could have been higher if their teams had performed better in the final stages. BOOM Esports was the highest-finishing Indonesian team in fifth place, with POWR eSports being the only representative from the host country in the final 16.
Comparison
Compared to the PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2023 held at last year’s Gamers8: The Land of Heroes event, English and Arabic viewership increased this year. While Nepali and Turkish contributions decreased, with only IW NRX from these countries making it to the top 16.
The PUBG Mobile World Cup 2024 emerged as the most popular event of the year in the discipline and the fourth most popular since 2023, trailing only behind the last two Global Championships and the 32nd SEA Games. The event could have ranked even higher if more prominent Asian teams had performed better.
Adding to the excitement, Krafton announced that the PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2024 will conclude at ExCel London on December 7 and 8. With Alpha7 Esports’ victory in Riyadh, the Americas region gains an additional slot, and it will be intriguing to see which teams build momentum in the coming months to qualify for this grand event.
