It’s been announced that the 100 Thieves Valorant roster will become free agents after the 2024 season. Requiring the entire team to renew their contracts if 100T wishes to retain them.
On July 16, 2024, an update to the global contract database for VCT teams showed that 100 Thieves had altered the contract end dates for four players, moving them from 2025 to 2024: Peter ‘Asuna’ Mazuryk, Sean ‘Bang’ Bezerra, Matthew ‘Cryocells’ Panganiban, and Daniel ‘eeiu’ Vucenovic.
Kelden ‘Boostio’ Pupello’s contract is also set to expire at the end of 2024. Now, it’s clear that all players will need to renew their contracts to stay with the team.
This unexpected change surprised fans. Who speculated that 100 Thieves might be dropping its entire roster just as they prepared for a crucial match against Sentinels.
However, 100 Thieves Vice President of Esports, Joseph ‘JungleJuice’ Jang, clarified on social media that the contract changes were made at the start of the season and were not a reaction to the team’s performance. The delay in updating the GCD was attributed to “internal changes” and “miscommunication” with Riot Games.
Jang stated, “We had some miscommunication with Riot during our internal changes and promptly followed up to ensure the correct end dates were reflected in the GCD. All parties are aware, and I apologize for any false alarm.”
The players were aware of their contract statuses and were not caught off guard by the organization. Nevertheless, this update could significantly impact the 2024-25 off-season, as other teams may now consider these players as potential recruits.
100 Thieves has performed well both domestically and internationally in 2024, winning Stage 1 of VCT Americas and placing fourth at Masters Shanghai. Despite this early success, the team’s season is in jeopardy. Having only won two matches in Split 2 and securing a low seed for the playoff stage.
They will compete against Sentinels in a single-elimination match on July 17, determining whether they continue to compete at Valorant Champions 2024 or start their off-season early.
