In June, esports fans followed competitions in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Valorant, Counter-Strike, and League of Legends closely. The most attention-grabbing event was MPL Indonesia Season 13. Additionally, IEM Dallas 2024 emerged as the most popular tournament among all those held in the city.
Regional league MPL Indonesia Season 13 was the most watched esports tournament in June. The grand final between EVOS Glory and Fnatic ONIC drew over 2.22 million simultaneous viewers, making it the fourth-highest viewership in the league’s history and the most popular season in the past year and a half.
The second most popular event was the Korean league LCK Summer 2024, featuring top League of Legends teams. Despite the season being ongoing, it surpassed 1 million peak viewers in June, with a notable match between rivals T1 and Gen.G in the first week. The LCK’s spring season set a record with over 2.6 million peak viewers for its grand final.
VCT 2024
Masters Shanghai ranked third, peaking at 914,000 viewers during the grand final between Team Heretics and Gen.G. This was lower than the viewership for Masters Madrid in March, as discussed in another article.
Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2024 drew over 823,800 concurrent viewers, placing it fourth in June. The grand final between G2 Esports and Team Vitality, won by Team Niko, nearly doubled the previous viewership record for IEM Dallas.
Fifth place went to the Arena of Valor Premier League 2024, which, despite being unfinished, already attracted over 713,000 peak viewers. It has the potential to surpass last year’s peak viewership of 974,600.
Among English-speaking audiences, traditional PC games like Counter-Strike and Valorant were the most popular in June. The top three events were IEM Dallas 2024, VCT Masters Shanghai, and BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024, which featured a grand final between Natus Vincere and Team Spirit.
MPL Indonesia Season 13
It was the only mobile esports event in the top five for English-language streams, attracting around 294,000 peak English-speaking viewers, nearly ten times lower than its overall peak viewership.
Among Portuguese-speaking audiences, the most popular events featured Brazilian teams. The top event was the CBLOL Split 2 2024 league, with over 227,900 fans watching the opening match between paiN Gaming and LOUD. The second most popular was a match between LOUD and EG in the regional VCT 2024: Americas League – Stage 2, with 224,500 viewers.
Top five also included two Free Fire championships: CPN XII and Esmerald Cup – Season 3, highlighting the game’s popularity in Brazil, partly due to LOUD’s international success.
In June, the most popular esports channels on Twitch included both official tournament organizers and community casters. The eslcs channel led with over 190,000 viewers during the IEM Dallas 2024 final. American streamer Tarik’s stream of the VCT Masters Shanghai final drew 141,800 viewers, making it his most successful broadcast in Q2 2024.
Other notable channels were blastpremier and otplol_, covering the BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024 and LEC Summer 2024, respectively. French streamer Gotaga also gained attention, with his stream of RLCS 2024 – Major 2 London matches peaking at over 120,000 viewers.
