Pescados Rubén Burela Crowned League Champions Once Again

Pescados Rubén Burela has revalidated their League champion title by defeating Futsi Atlético Navalcarnero 4-0 in the third match of the Iberdrola First Division Playoff final. The Galician team took full advantage of their home court. Bouncing back from a penalty shootout loss in the first match (3-3/5-6) and a decisive 2-4 victory in the second match at La Estación pavilion.

The ‘guerreiras’ dominated the first half with impressive teamwork between Irene Samper and Dany Domingos. Opening goal came in the 2nd minute with a pass from the Zaragoza winger to the veteran center. In the 11th minute, the roles reversed as the Brazilian assisted the Spanish international for a second goal.

In the second half, Marta Balbuena’s efforts prevented a larger scoreline. Despite Sergio Bretón’s strategy of playing with five players with eleven minutes remaining, it was Antía who secured the title in the 37th minute with a double penalty. Cami Gadeia’s goal seven seconds before the end sealed the victory, sparking joy among the orange fans in Vista Alegre.

This triumph marks Pescados Rubén Burela’s sixth league title.

Equaling the record for the most successful team in the competition alongside their final rival and Femesala Elche. Additionally, Julio Delgado’s team retained the League championship for the second time in their history (2019-2021), closing another historic season with a double, following their sixth Spanish Super Cup win on February 4 in Torremolinos.

The dominance of Spanish futsal continues to be shared between Pescados Rubén Burela and Futsi Navalcarnero. Who have claimed 12 of the last 13 League titles and contested eight league finals since 2012. However, Torreblanca Melilla, led by Brazilian Amandinha, is emerging as a significant contender, having won their first Queen’s Cup on April 14 in Alhaurín de la Torre.

Despite losing star player Peque to Alcorcón last summer and bidding farewell to legendary Brazilian goalkeeper Jozi Oliveira in January. Pescados Rubén Burela showcased their resilience by becoming regular league champions with just two losses and leading the standings since the sixth day. Finishing with a ten-point lead over Futsi Atlético Navalcarnero. In the title playoffs, the ‘picaras’ faced only two additional defeats, cementing their status as two-time champions.

Burela, a small municipality in Lugo with 10,000 inhabitants. Can once again boast of being the only city with both men’s and women’s teams in the First Division. With David Rial’s team earning promotion against UMA Antequera after two years in the Second Division, Pescados Rubén is reaffirmed as the capital of Spanish futsal. A milestone they last shared with Elche CF in the 2015-2016 season, an achievement no other club has matched.
