Jimbee Cartagena Makes History: Wins First Futsal League Title

Jimbee Cartagena has made a groundbreaking achievement in the First Division by becoming the first team to win the League outside the Spanish ‘Big-Three’ (Inter, Barça, and ElPozo), who had controlled 22 of the past 23 tournaments. This historic victory came on January 7 when they won the Spanish Super Cup, marking their first national title. Despite setbacks in the Spanish Cup and the Copa del Rey final, Cartagena clinched their inaugural League title on June 21 before 5,100 enthusiastic spectators.

The club is now the first to secure the League title while finishing fifth in the regular season, boasting an impeccable playoff run with only one loss in the final series against ElPozo Murcia. They knocked out Movistar Inter in the quarterfinals and the defending champions, Barça, in the semifinals. Cartagena then triumphed over ElPozo Murcia in a four-game final series, culminating in a 4-2 victory in the decisive match.

This victory is historic as no team had previously come back from an 0-2 deficit in a series to win the League. The final saw a tense, goalless first half, but Jimbee Cartagena scored twice in the second half. Despite ElPozo’s efforts, they were unable to close the gap. Key players Motta and Tomaz were instrumental, with Motta scoring his 23rd goal of the season. In the final moments, Jimbee secured their victory with another goal, sealing ElPozo’s fate.

ElPozo Murcia has now lost 11 league finals, six in a row, extending their title drought since their last League win in 2010 and their last trophy in 2017 (Copa del Rey).

In other news, Pescados Rubén has forced a third match in the Primera Futsal Iberdrola final against Futsi Navalcarnero. Additionally, Lugo Sala, CFS Pinatar, and CD Sporting La Nucía have been promoted to the Second Division after winning their respective promotion playoffs.

Celebrate Jimbee Cartagena’s historic win and join the conversation about this monumental achievement in Spanish futsal!
