The PUBG Global Series 2024 has resumed with a bang, breaking its previous viewership record set just last month. Phase 3 of the series was the most-watched PUBG: Battlegrounds event of the year until Phase 4 came along and surpassed it. This latest event has showcased the immense power of Asian viewers in driving the popularity of the game, signaling promising prospects for the upcoming international tournaments throughout 2024.
PUBG: Battlegrounds reached its peak in 2018, capturing the attention of streamers and content creators worldwide. Although the esports division’s popularity waned over the years, recent times have seen a resurgence. Since 2020, viewership has been steadily climbing, and 2024 has marked the highest peak since 2019.
Held in Shanghai, China, Phase 4 built on the success of Phase 3. With a $300,000 prize pool, Twisted Minds claimed victory, securing $100,000 and their first major trophy of 2024.
The event spanned seven days and garnered 3.37 million hours watched over nearly 27 hours of broadcast time. It maintained stable viewership, with an average of 125,200 viewers at any given time—one of the highest averages for PUBG: Battlegrounds in recent years.
Broadcast Language
Vietnamese was the most popular broadcast language, highlighting the strong support from Vietnamese fans. In addition to YouTube Live, the event was highly viewed on Nimo TV, attracting nearly as many concurrent viewers as YouTube Live. Thai and Korean audiences also tuned in, with English-language broadcasts similarly popular, reflecting a diverse international audience that includes Southeast Asian demographics.
Phase 4 of the PUBG Global Series 2024 has become the fifth most popular PUBG: Battlegrounds tournament, surpassing Phase 3. While its viewership doesn’t match the heights of 2018 and 2019, it represents significant progress for PUBG esports.
The growing viewership is a positive sign for the rest of the 2024 esports schedule, which includes several major international events. PUBG: Battlegrounds will feature at the Esports World Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a $2 million event. Later in the year, the PUBG Global Championship 2024 will take place in Kuala Lumpur, with a $1.5 million prize pool, capping off a year of thrilling esports action. With increasing viewership, these events are poised to achieve the highest numbers in years, proving PUBG: Battlegrounds’ enduring appeal.
