Former League of Legends professional player Lee ‘Yaharong’ Chan-ju has been arrested in Hanoi, Vietnam on murder charges. He allegedly strangled a woman to death and then fled the scene.
According to Vietnamese news site iThethao, the incident occurred after the woman, who had rented a hotel room with Yaharong, refused his advances. This rejection led to an argument, during which Yaharong strangled her and suffocated her with a pillow. Following the crime, he reportedly attempted to take his own life by heading to the 65th floor of the hotel, but was apprehended in the elevator. He was then identified as Lee Chan-ju, the former League of Legends player known as Yaharong.
iThethao reports that Yaharong is being extradited back to South Korea for legal proceedings.
Yaharong’s professional career began under the name ‘Grace’ with Jin Air Green Wings during the 2018 LCK Season. The team’s performance in 2019 was notably poor, with a 0-18 record in the Summer season and only one win in the Spring, making their overall record for the year 1-35. This resulted in one of the longest losing streaks in competitive League of Legends history.
After Jin Air disbanded in late 2020, Yaharong joined Fredit BRION as their starting mid-laner at the beginning of 2021. But was later moved to a substitute role. He then joined the Japanese team DetonatioN FocusMe in early 2022, achieving domestic success and qualifying for both MSI and Worlds, though without notable international results. Yaharong has been inactive as a professional player since leaving DFM at the end of 2022.
