ElPozo Set to Face Jimbee in Historic First Division Final 2024

ElPozo will be Jimbee’s rival in the First Division final, marking a historic event for Murcia’s futsal teams. Dani Martínez’s team triumphed at the Olivo Arena, with Marcel’s extra-time goal eliminating Jaén Paraíso Interior in the second game of the semifinal playoff, securing a 3-4 victory. This will be the first time in 18 years that two teams from the Region of Murcia meet in the competition’s final stage. The last encounter was in 2006 when ElPozo faced the Polaris construction company and won in the fifth game.

Jimbee will play its first final in history, the third of this season after winning the Spanish Supercup and losing the Copa del Rey. For ElPozo, this will be their sixteenth final, having won five and lost ten, with their last league title attempt in 2019 against Barça.

ElPozo’s journey saw them overcoming Viña Albali Valdepeñas in the first playoff round, and securing a win with a 6-2 score in Murcia and a 3-4 victory in extra time at the Olivo Arena. Highlights included strategic plays from Gadeia and key goals from Rafa Santos and Marcel.

The Final

This final will be the first in 13 seasons without Movistar Inter or Barça, last occurring in 2009 when ElPozo won against Osasuna. It also marks the fifth consecutive season with a debutant in the title match. The first game will be played in Murcia on Saturday, June 15.

Jimbee, preparing for their third final of the season and first league final in history, aims to emulate Playas de Castellón’s 2001 feat of three national finals in a season without Movistar Inter, ElPozo, or Barça. Coach Eduardo Sao Thiago Lentz ‘Duda’, who has led a remarkable season, expressed confidence in securing the title for Cartagena. Especially after eliminating the current champion with Tomaz Braga’s extra-time goal. Winning the league would also grant them a spot in the UEFA Futsal Champions League. Duda emphasized the importance of defense and team recovery, focusing on key players like Motta.
