SC Secures Spot in Champions League

Following their loss in the second game, SC Braga has emerged as the second confirmed finalist in the Liga Placard. They secured their spot with a remarkable 5-1 victory and will now compete for the title against the current national champion, Sporting. This win also assures them a place in the 24-25 Champions League.

It’s worth mentioning that this is a significant achievement for the Minho emblem, which hasn’t been accomplished since the 17/18 season. On the other hand, Benfica, known as the Eagles, missed their second major target of the season – following their defeat in the Champions League semi-finals – and failed to qualify for the European competition, a setback they haven’t experienced since the 17/18 season.

the game

As for the game, SC Braga started off strong, scoring a goal through a penalty converted by Tiago Brito, following Higor’s foul on Rafael Henmi. However, they then shifted their focus to defensive organization and handed over control of the game to Benfica.

Mário Silva’s team dominated the game, creating numerous opportunities but failing to capitalize on them. They had eight significant chances in various forms, from quick attacks and offensive organization to corners and set pieces. Jacaré and Dudu stood out in the match, contributing significantly both offensively and defensively.

The second half of the game told a different story. SC Braga improved, especially in the first 10 minutes, and after several excellent saves from Léo Gugiel, Tiago Correia scored. Dudu, who also had a notable performance, assisted in the goal when the Portuguese winger deflected a powerful shot from the goalkeeper into the net.

After SC Braga’s dominance and goal, the Eagles retaliated. In a similar play, Diego Nunes took a shot and Carlos Monteiro, seizing the opportunity, outpaced the Braga defense to make the score 2-1. SC Braga then responded with a beautiful goal from Tiago Sousa. From 3-1 onwards, the Eagles lost their composure and conceded two goals in a 5-4 formation. Allan Guilherme and Tiago Correia finalized the score.
