Riot Games has officially announced that Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok will be the first inductee into the Hall of Legends. This prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone in the history of League of Legends esports.
Introducing the Hall of Legends
On January 4, 2024, Riot introduced the Hall of Legends, League’s equivalent to a Hall of Fame, aimed at celebrating the game’s most iconic players. Riot had planned to begin inducting players within the year, and speculation had been rife about who would be honored first.
Faker: A Legend Recognized
Today, Riot confirmed that Faker will be the inaugural inductee. The developer cited his dedication to League of Legends, his game-changing plays, and his numerous international and domestic titles as key reasons for his selection.
“Faker is truly the most iconic and influential figure in League of Legends and esports history,” said John Needham, President of Esports at Riot Games. “His name is synonymous with excellence in LoL Esports, and he has rightfully earned his place as our very first Hall of Legends inductee.”
Faker was chosen by a panel of esports industry veterans and experts from various regions. The South Korean star will be honored with a trophy commemorating his induction.
In-Game Celebration
In celebration of Faker’s induction, Riot Games will host an in-game event featuring cosmetic items and a dedicated “art piece” highlighting Faker’s greatest career accomplishments. Players will have the opportunity to earn these cosmetics by participating in the event, with more details to be announced in the coming weeks.
Leaked Details and Upcoming Patch
Prior to the official announcement, leakers had revealed Faker’s induction, showcasing a trailer and a new Ahri skin dedicated to him. Further leaks suggested that the event commemorating Faker will be included in patch 14.11, expected to release on May 29.
Revenue Sharing
According to a Riot press release, both Faker and his team, T1, will receive a percentage of the revenue from the sale of event passes and bundles.
Recent Performance at MSI 2024
Faker’s induction into the Hall of Legends comes just days after T1 secured a top-three finish at the 2024 Mid-Season Invitational. Despite being one of the favorites, the South Korean team was eliminated by Bilibil Gaming in both the second round of the Bracket Stage and the losers’ finals.
