DetonatioN FocusMe secured its first victory since the inception of the VCT leagues. In VCT Pacific by triumphing over T1 with a 2-1 scoreline in their inaugural match of Split 1 during the 2024 season.
The victory marked DetonatioN FocusMe’s first professional win since 2022, achieved in a Split 1 series against T1 Esports on April 9. Invited into VCT Pacific by Riot Games in late 2022, the Japanese side endured the entire 2023 season without clinching a victory.
DetonatioN FocusMe stood as the sole team across the three leagues that failed to secure a win during the 2023 season, earning the unenviable moniker of the worst VCT-partnered team. It was even likened to the Shanghai Dragons team, which suffered over 40 losses in the Overwatch League.
Entering the first international event of 2023, VCT LOCK//IN, DFM exited the tournament promptly after a defeat to Giants Gaming. Subsequently, the team endured a winless streak, going 0-9 in the VCT Pacific league and missing out on both the playoffs and Masters Tokyo. Their final opportunity to clinch a win in the league came at the Last Chance Qualifier tournament for Valorant Champions 2023, where they faltered in the first round against Talon Esports.
DFM couldn’t secure a win even outside of Riot’s partnered league, going 0-3 in a 2023/34 offseason event.
During the offseason, DFM underwent significant changes both in its business operations and Valorant roster. The company forged a partnership with fellow Japanese esports organization, Crazy Raccoon, merging their Valorant staff and rosters.
The team commenced the 2024 season with two losses in the VCT Pacific Kickoff tournament. However, they quickly reversed their fortunes at the beginning of the regular season, prevailing over the highly-rated T1 side by claiming victory in the first and final maps, Ascent and Sunset respectively, of the three-game series in their opening Split 1 match.
