IEM Chengdu 2024: Tournament Overview

IEM Chengdu 2024 marks the second IEM event of the year and the third significant international LAN event in CS2 esports. Here’s a comprehensive overview of the tournament:

IEM Chengdu immediately follows the Copenhagen Major, showcasing teams that either qualified for or missed out on the first major of the year. Teams transitioning from Copenhagen will have minimal downtime, potentially arriving with momentum but also facing the risk of burnout due to the tight turnaround. This dynamic could present opportunities for teams such as M80, 9z, TYLOO, and G2 Esports to vie for an IEM crown and seize the lion’s share of the $250,000 prize pool along with BLAST Premier points.

Here’s what we know about IEM Chengdu so far, including details on qualified teams, streaming, and match dates.

Stream

The tournament is broadcasted on Twitch and YouTube via IEM channels. Below is the embedded stream for your convenience. Additionally, the event features A and B streams for simultaneous matches during the early stages.

Schedule

Qualifying events have concluded, leaving only the main event, which kicks off on April 8. The tournament concludes on April 14 with the Grand Final.

Further details regarding match start times and the duration of the group and playoff stages will be provided as they become available.

Format

Sixteen teams will be divided into two groups of eight. These groups will engage in a GSL Group Stage format, where teams are seeded into a double-elimination bracket. Initial matches are best-of-one, with subsequent matchups evolving into best-of-three series. The top three teams from each group progress to the playoffs.

Top-ranked team from each group advances directly to the semifinals, while the runners-up face the third-place teams in the quarterfinals. The playoffs adopt a single-elimination format, with all matches being best-of-three.

Unlike IEM Katowice, IEM Chengdu does not include a play-in stage.
