MPL Indonesia Season 13: Exciting Start, Viewer Trends, and the Road to the Mid-Season Cup

The Mobile Legends Professional League Indonesia, the world’s most-watched esports league, kicked off its 13th season on March 8. Mobile Legends Bang Bang is set to expand its esports scene, promising more action than ever in 2024. MPL Indonesia Season 13 commenced with exceptionally high viewership during the opening day matches, featuring Alter Ego, the newly rebranded EVOS Glory, Dewa United Esports, and Rebellion Esports. These teams, having finished in the lower half of Season 12’s table, aimed to start the year strong with a victory. Days two and three witnessed major Indonesian teams facing off, and the final day of Week 1 showcased popular MPL names: RRQ Hoshi and ONIC Esports.

WEEK 1 VIEWERSHIP STATISTICS FOR MPL SEASON 13

The first three days of matches accumulated a total of 9.75 million hours watched and 1.49 million peak viewers. While viewership slightly decreased compared to MPL Season 12’s opening week, it’s important to note that the previous season became the most-watched esports league of all time. There’s still ample opportunity for MPL Season 13 to grow and accumulate millions more hours of watch time.

Indonesian remains the predominant language for the event, but English-language viewership dipped slightly during the league’s first week. Burmese-language broadcasts gained more attention than in the previous season, suggesting the MPL may be building a strong secondary audience among Burmese-speaking fans.

The weekend’s penultimate match between Aura Fire and RRQ Hoshi stood out as the most popular match, reaching over 1 million peak viewers. RRQ, with a rich history in the Indonesian MPL and multiple regional championships, has consistently been a crowd favorite. While Aura Fire’s match against RRQ garnered high viewership, their other game against Dewa United Esports received less attention, indicating that RRQ Hoshi’s popularity played a significant role.

Alter Ego, an established esports brand in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, boasts six years of history in the Indonesian esports scene, accumulating a sizable following. Despite recent fluctuations in their performance, fans remain passionate and supportive, eagerly tuning in for Alter Ego’s games in Season 13 of the professional league.

The MPL ID Season 13 winner and runner-up will advance directly to the brand-new Mid-Season Cup. In 2024, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is undergoing significant changes in its esports scene, and the Mid-Season Cup is part of this expansion. Set to begin in late June in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a $3 million USD prize pool, it will be the most expensive ML:BB tournament ever held, featuring a 7-figure prize pool.

Esports Charts will continue to report on MPL Indonesia’s viewership as the league progresses through its 9-week regular season. Stay tuned to the tournament page for real-time viewership statistics or our articles for curated insights.
