Palma Futsal: Summer Signings, Rising Stars, and Sporting Honors

Mallorca Palma Futsal shows no signs of slowing down. Although the winter transfer market closed just four weeks ago, the Balearic club has already kicked off the summer window. It has been confirmed that the European champions have successfully secured the signing of David Peña Romero. This left-handed wing, hailing from Industrias Santa Coloma, is recognized as one of the most promising players in the First Division. Having spent three seasons with the Cologne team, he will join Mallorca on June 30 with a free transfer.

David Peña, the European Under-19 Champion in 2019, has caught the attention of coach Faith Vidal for the National Team’s left-wing position. Following two seasons with Barça’s subsidiary in the Second Division, he embraced the challenge of playing in the First Division with Industrias Santa Coloma in 2021. Despite interest from other clubs like Viña Albali Valdepeñas and Movistar Inter, Mallorca Palma Futsal successfully convinced him with a four-year contract.

With Mario Rivillos’ renewal in progress and Moslem Oladghobad excelling as a right-handed player in the left-handed position, new addition Vilian Alves finds himself with the least playing time. The Georgian-Brazilian wing, signed for one season with an option for another, awaits his fate based on performance until the end of the league, determining his future with the team.

Looking ahead to the 2024-25 season, David Peña is aware that he may join the first team under Antonio Vadillo or be loaned to another First Division team.

Industrias Santa Coloma will be the first to bid for his loan services, but Palma has already received at least two requests from other clubs interested in the rising star of Spanish futsal. In the current season, Peña has participated in 18 games and scored seven goals.

Following Nil Tent’s loan move to Real Betis, Palma Futsal now boasts only three Spanish players and a total of 14 foreign players. In the summer market, the club aims to conduct additional domestic transactions. Carlos Barrón, Mario Rivillos, and Jesus Gordillo represent the Spanish contingent. The cosmopolitan Balearic roster comprises five Brazilians, three Brazilian Georgians, three Iranians, an Armenian-Brazilian, and a Brazilian Russian.

Posthumously, Miguel Jaume will be honored with the Cornelius Atticus 2023 distinction, the highest sporting recognition awarded by the Balearic Government. The ceremony is scheduled for March 26 at the Es Baluard museum in Palma, recognizing Jaume’s enduring legacy in both the sporting and social realms. His foundation, supporting over 1,700 athletes on the island, continues to contribute to Mallorca Palma Futsal’s success.
