Superliga Spring 2024: Unraveling Viewer Decline and Roster Transformations

The initial matches of the Superliga Spring 2024 revealed a decline in viewership for the Spanish league compared to the previous Spring split. The number of viewers decreased on both the channel of the popular community caster Ibai and on the official LVPES channel. Moreover, the official broadcast now attracts half as many viewers as it did last year.

WHAT HAS CHANGED IN THE SUPER LEAGUE SINCE LAST SEASON?

There have been significant changes in the composition of the Superliga participants this spring. KOI Academy and Movistar Riders merged, now competing under the unified tag Movistar KOI, while the former KOI Academy slot was acquired by the Ramboot Club. Additionally, BISONS ECLUB and Fnatic TQ left the league, with their slots being filled by Guasones Team and ZETA, respectively. The list also includes Case Esports, which made its debut in the top league in Spain after successfully running in the Promotion event.

Minor changes were also made to the match schedule. Last spring, the Spanish league started with an extended first week (teams played three matches instead of two). Previously, games took place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but now they are scheduled for Wednesdays and Thursdays.

VIEWER STATISTICS AT THE START OF THE SPRING SEASON

The primary audience coverage for the Spanish league is still provided by popular streamer Ibai and the official LVPES channel. However, the start of the Superliga Spring 2024 turned out to be much weaker than in the spring of 2023. The number of average viewers in the first week decreased by 26%. On the LVPES channel, it even decreased almost by half compared to the previous spring. Ibai also experienced a decline in this metric, but only by 12%. The overall peak viewership for league broadcasts in the first week dropped by 21% compared to the same period last year.

As before, Ibai covers only the matches of his team, Movistar KOI. The most popular match without MKOI’s involvement gathered 31.8K Peak Viewers, while the series involving MKOI attracted 72.4K PV and 89K PV.

The average viewership for the league has significantly declined, especially on official channels. This means that the viewership statistics for Superliga are even more dependent on Ibai’s broadcasts and the performance of his team, MKOI. If they do not make it to the playoffs, the overall statistics will likely be very modest.

Overall, the situation in Superliga Spring 2024 turned out to be worse than in LFL Spring 2024. The two main regional leagues in Europe saw a significant drop in the number of viewers on official broadcasts, although community casting remained almost at the same level. This can be attributed to the fact that the main media clubs of these leagues have representatives in the LEC, and some of their fans prefer to follow only the main rosters there.
