A Brazilian controversy

LNF 2023 ended a few days ago with an unprecedented champion and next season you already know that there will be an opposing championship… at home. CBFS decided to create its own championship.

The Brazilian Futsal Confederation announced the launch of a groundbreaking competition, the Brazilian Futsal Championship, set to become the CBFS’ primary event. This long-term tournament will unite top clubs and feature multiple divisions, marking a pivotal moment for the sport’s future.

“Today signifies an exciting milestone for us all. Futsal holds a special place in our hearts, and we’re geared up to take a giant leap into its future,” expressed CBFS President Marcos Madeira during the unveiling.

Detailed information about participating clubs, format, and divisions for the 2024 debut edition is yet to be disclosed. Previously, the National Futsal League managed the country’s primary competition since 2014, while CBFS oversaw national events like Taça Brasil, Copa do Brasil, and Supercopa.

This initiative aims to revamp long-term competitions and the entry system for these tournaments. The absence of Corinthians, the reigning LNF champion, from the Libertadores due to the League’s disassociation from CBFS exemplifies the evolving landscape of futsal in Brazil.
