It would happen one day

After the final whistle between Portugal and Georgia, which marked the end of the Portuguese team’s unbeaten run since 2016, national coach Jorge Braz analyzed the match and explained the shortcomings.

“We weren’t efficient considering the volume of opportunities we had. Understanding how to play within just ten offensive meters, with 30 free meters behind, isn’t always easy. We didn’t feel comfortable in the game, and Georgia started to gain belief, eventually turning the tide towards the end,” he explained while speaking to the Portuguese Football Federation.

“The first half was predominantly ours, with numerous opportunities, but we failed to take the lead on the scoreboard. Although we started the second half well and scored, we couldn’t manage the match effectively,” he added.

Regarding the seven-year undefeated streak, the coach opted to focus on the titles. “We’re still the world champions and two-time European champions. Losing is never our aim, but it happened today, and it was inevitable at some point. It’s not our main concern; what’s crucial is the process. That’s what leads to compelling and successful outcomes, as we’ve experienced in recent years.”

“Our focus should remain on that. Now it’s time to rise again and begin preparing for the World Cup’s final phase. We still have two preparation stages in this sports season, and that’s where our attention is shifting,” he concluded.
