Zicky Sporting Futsal Journey: From Rink to Stardom

At Alvalade Multidesportivo, Zicky granted a long interview. Before a training session for the League Cup, the Sporting and national team pivot answered various questions, showcasing the positive atmosphere within the squad, especially between him and Erick.

From the Rink to Sporting

Izaquiel Gomes Té, known as Zicky, started playing futsal in the 2011/2012 season with GROB – Olival Basto Recreational Group. He later moved to PSAAC – Póvoa de Santo Adrião Atlético Clube. In 2013/2014, he joined Sporting as a first-year child.

“I started playing because of friends; we played on a rink in Olival Basto. Then, I joined the club to play futsal instead of street football. Sporting scouts watched our games, and I took pictures after a training match against them. During the children’s games, I remember seeing Sporting’s Mister Nuno Dias and my future teammates,” he recalled.

The nickname “Zicky” originated from a cousin, and it stuck, eventually becoming Zicky Padre among his friends.

In those early days, his cousin’s support was crucial to his development: “My idol is Domingos, who has always encouraged me since I started playing and has been a constant in my life.”

At 17, Zicky debuted for the main team against Unidos Pinheirense. That season, he played four games and scored twice, becoming the youngest ever to score in the League.

“It was a shock, but a source of pride, a reward for my hard work. A huge happiness, being coached by this technical team. It was a privilege and a huge responsibility to debut at 17,” he explained.

First Senior Year

Now 19, Zicky is in his first senior year, having played 34 games and scored 13 goals. He discussed the transition to senior level:

“The big differences in seniors are the intensity and speed. Juniors train similarly, but in seniors, execution requires more intensity and constant focus.”

Training and the Captain

Sporting’s commitment to training is evident:

“Futsal brought me many friends, even brothers, like the twins Bernardo and Tomás Paçó, Sévio, and Hugo Neves. It’s great to play with them as seniors. Our work from Benjamins to seniors is being recognized.”

Sharing the locker room with captain João Matos, who also rose through Sporting’s ranks, is a culmination of his efforts:

“He’s an inspiration and a huge pride. Every player from the team aspires to achieve what he has.”

Cardinal and the National Team

A Cardinal injury provided Zicky with more playing time and a national team call-up. He feels this isn’t extra pressure but an opportunity.

“I’m not replacing Cardinal; I’m working to earn my place. It’s unfortunate that he was injured. The pressure is from playing for Sporting, where we aim to reach the top.”

Working with Cardinal has been beneficial:

“He gives great advice and helps the younger players. We tease him about being a coach, but his experience is invaluable.”

Zicky recently debuted for the national team against the Czech Republic, fulfilling a dream:

“Reaching the A team was always my goal. I thank my teammates and coaches for the support. I’ll keep working to stay in the national team and participate in major tournaments.”

Goal in the Derby and Improvements

Zicky’s goal in the derby secured a 1-1 draw against Benfica:

“It was a moment of immense happiness. I was so thrilled I lost my bearings. It was an important goal that kept us in first place.”

Despite his success, he acknowledges areas for improvement:

“I’ve made mistakes in the final moments of attacks, and I need to improve. I’m working on it in every training session.”

Ambitions and Advice for Young Players

Reflecting on his career, Zicky chose three memorable moments and shared a special dream:

“Joining Sporting, scoring against Benfica, and reaching the national team are highlights. My big dream is to win the Champions League with Sporting’s main team.”

Zicky aims to be a reference in futsal and left advice for younger players:

“Keep working and stay humble. Talent alone isn’t enough; you need a good mindset, rest, and commitment. Coaches are paying more attention to training. If I made it, others can too. Keep working and dreaming.”
